Police investigating fatal bus accident in Guelph, city worker killed

A police investigation remains active following the fatal collision of a pedestrian with a bus in Guelph on Wednesday afternoon. The incident was reported at approximately 1:37 p.m. in the area of Wyndham Street and Carden Street.

Initially, police reported that the pedestrian was a man in his 40s, with injuries that appeared to be critical. An update later confirmed that the man had passed away due to his injuries. He has been identified as a 49-year-old from Fergus, who was an employee of the City of Guelph.

Police have stated that the Fergus resident was hit while crossing Wyndham Street. He had to be rescued from beneath the city bus and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Officials noted that the bus driver remained at the scene after the incident. In a statement to CTV News on Thursday, Tara Baker, Chief Administrative Officer, remarked, “Our focus is on supporting the employee’s family, colleagues, and all city staff who have been impacted by this terrible event, including the transit operator”. She added that, out of respect for the employee’s family, his name will not be disclosed.
